BONNA

A SHELF WITH ABSTRACTION

BACKGROUND AND INSPIRATION -

Bonna is a result of an abstraction. The metaphor belongs to the three main inspirations. The three inspiration is shown as below.

There is one bench from the beyond design group, one from the tree and last from the human hand structure in which kind of joint is pivot joint. Also the related problems with the shelves and the wood also acts as a major factor of its overall approach. Keeping all these in mind, bonna has taken its final form.

FINAL FORM, USAGE AND RENDER -

Bonna’s design follows a simple manufacturing process. The parts are made up of thinner logs of wood pieces. Each part can be made out of small log. Also the necessary operations need basic manufacturing tools and steps. The concept can be knock down using simple hand tools. There is no fixation of shelf space. A person can shift the shelf position anytime he feels so.

LOW FIDELITY PROTOTYPE ( SCALE 1 : 1 AND 1 : 5 ) -

Two low-fidelity prototypes are made using readily available thermocole, wood and 3d printed parts. The major parts of bonna are made up of discarded things. The whole assembly is standing on nut and bolts. No permanent joints are used. 1:1 model is used to check the proportions and 1:5 scale model is used to check the CMF of the bonna.
